late abort??
    #3574660 - 01/03/05 12:35 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

alright, i have a cake producing a mushroom thats about 4 or 5 in. long now, but it seems like the growth has stopped over the past 2 or 3 days... it seems like it should be opening up its cap, but all i really think is happening is it's thinning out even moreso where the stipe joins the cap.  my q is, will a cake abort a mushroom thats nearly full grown and done? :mushroom2:

If it's your 2nd or 3rd flush, then you might have run out of nutes, so yes, it can, you might wanna pick that while its "Ripe"
Good luck

it was actually the first cake of this cycle, first flush and the very first much on any of the cakes to appear... it wasn't however growing from the verm. on the top of the cake, it was growing from the bottom and kind of snaking across the perlite and ran into the side of the tank and started curving away from it, which is where it still stands

Wow, heh, perfect conditions around that area should explain it, But, i donno, What are you using? Pf cakes? Thatmight explain a nute depletion.

yeah they are pf cakes (br/verm) but this is the first flush, and a few of the other cakes that are fruiting are doing very well with many pins about an inch long at the moment, i don't really think the nutes are depleted quite yet... i was hoping the it's dragging across the perlite wasn't harming the mushroom in any way, but i didn't want to get to touchy-feely on it to move it and check for blueing on the underside that was in contact w/ the perlite

Yea, well it happens, It shouldn't be hurting it, it's basically feeding it high levels of water....Perhaps your humidity should be raised and your c02 levels dropped?

they are half pints, in a plastic ter. with perlite, an air pump being fed into a bottle of water (so pretty much constant fresh, filtered air, a florescent on a timer at 8hours a day, blacked out sides so light enters only from the top, and the cakes were not dunked or cold shocked or rolled, birthed straight in to there home
