UPDATE: How about a big rubbermaid cabinet w/locks?

For those of you who live in the midwest, near one of the 190 Menards hardware stores:
These things normally retail for approx $130. They're selling them at Menard's for ~$77. That's almost 40% off. I'd pick one of these over a martha any day...
---- EDIT: So I thought I'd give a little update on this cabinet. I went out and got it a while ago and it's been a mixed blessing.
CONS: Too many pieces. Hard to put together. Not as "sealed" as it appears in the picture. I used a whole tube of silicone on this cabinet, then topped that off with silver duct tape. Let me tell you, the mixture of duct tape adhesive, and acetic acid from the silicone is enough to knock you out. It took a lot of work to get this thing ready to go.
PROS: Solid structure. I could put things on top of it, which I like. Hell, I could stand on top of it. Once it was sealed it held moisture very well. I didn't notice as much moisture in the outer room itself as I had with the plastic tent setup/martha. The side panels were double walls, so it kept the temperature fairly regulated. It's opaque, which is good for me if somebody stumbled into the room. The internal shelves were perforated, so moisture migrated well from top to bottom.
Even though I liked it better than a martha, it was still probably not worth all the prep work. I like the fact that it's a solid structure, but if I had to do it all over again I would just get a refrigerator per agar's repeated suggestions
I never got to fruit in it, so I don't know how it would perform but my guess is that it would do a damn good job.

I built one instead. I'm the type of person who likes to do things myself. although it's not for shrooms;)

I hope that wooden thing is lined with plastic Kiss. Even still its a bad thing to have a chamber made out of wood. High humidity+wood=contams. Problem with that Gsmith is its not clear so lights would have to go inside...its more difficult to cut through and therefore mod, which you'd have to do to not only put in lights but air exchange..and you'd need an exhaust to keep the temp down because something like that would hold in heat from the lights well since they'd have to be inside. Not to mention it being more then double the price and looks like half the size. Besides being able to build a Martha yourself for a quarter of the price. Also its probably harder to customize shelves to fit inside of it to get them to just the right height if its anything like the ones I've seen that look similar.

yeah, but not being clear can also be a good thing. I prefer to not advertise what's going on in there. cutting isn't too hard with a roto-zip or a hole saw either. I've used both of those methods on those white 5gal paint buckets before and that's much denser plastic. Plus, my home is a constant 68 degrees... a little trapped heat helps it get to good fruiting temps. A trick with flouros is to put the ballasts outside of the cabinet. That reduces a lot of the heat that they put off. My biggest concern is air exchange... dimensions: 6ft tall, 3ft wide, 1.5ft deep, shelves 1.5ft apart. I wish it was a little deeper but I can make due. It's wider than what I got now. edit: forgot to mention, these things can also hold almost 700lbs! that's sturdy... not that I'll have 700lbs in there.

I was looking at one of those at home depot. I wanted to turn the top half into a clean-box. Use the bottom as my incubation chamber... Then get another one for my fruiting...
After pricing all the things needed to build something that is half as good, it came out to being twice as expensive to do it myself.
I think I have crossed that border of realization that tells you that some things are just better off to NOT do yourself! Ghetto only goes so far!
If my calculations are correct. all of my DIY projects that saved me $300.00 have cost me over $800.00, more if you count the fact that I eventually broke down and spent more doing it the right way!
Pick me up two of those!

I wish I had the space for an old fridge, and a Martha.. *or two* This was just the right size, shape, and seemed logical. Needs some tweaking, but I think it will turn out nicely.. Building the Tek seems 1/2 the fun of it..

yeah i'd love a dead freezer.... problem is lugging one of those sumbitches up a flight of stairs. With these cabinets I can manage the whole thing myself. I'd have to rent a van too since I don't know anybody I can trust that has a one. I totally went through the logistics on this too... you are definitely right about appliance repair places having these though. Plenty to choose from... They usually keep 'em around for harvesting parts I guess.

Yeah, but if you're average person looks at that cab with electicity and ventilation running into it they'll probably assume you're growing pot in there. They'd be wrong, but having them think that might be even worse than them knowing you're growing mushrooms (at least you can try to say they're legal mushrooms, you can't say a thing about pot.)
-------------------- "A nation's hope of lasting peace cannot be firmly based upon any race in armaments but rather upon just relations and honest understanding with all other nations... Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed... The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. We pay for a single fighter with a half million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people..." President Dwight Eisenhower, 1953

yeah, but I've grown pot and there are a few notable differences. Odor being the biggest difference. Even with a carbon air scrubber and a ghetto rigged ozone generator I could still smell my grow. Granted, I couldn't smell it outside of the room, which was good, but the minute I walked in there it was like "oh my... skunky". Temperature is another factor. Anybody who tells you that they grow pot in a cabinet with an HID lamp and their temps are lower than 85 is lying. Noise also. Big fans make big noise.
Which brings me back to this cabinet. The corner supports are hollow. I plan on running my tubing and wiring through these. Everything outside of the cabinet will be housed in a smaller cabinet. Hopefully nothing will be noticeable from outside. There will still be noise from the humidifier and what not, but maybe I'll rig something up so I can switch it off without having to open up the small cabinet. I'll take pictures of it (sans shroomies) when it's all set up.

Man you got it WAY wrong my friend! Just because you have trouble growing pot with your setup don't go, thinking that all cabinets are the same...thats a joke. My house has been up for sale, with at least 30 diffrent familys standing right in front of my cabinet operating looking to veiw the house. Not a single person had a clue that there's roughly 8 oz. on a stick in my cabinet, and 4 clones rooting at times. Maybe your cabinet is junk( i don't know), but I was able to keep temps. in 74-76f without any problems during the lights on ( 250w HPS). Maybe you just need to try alittle harder, or spend more money on ventilation, and directing it the right way. Granted smell is an issue at times. Thats one of the hardest factors in growing to try and keep in control. I know what your saying about not being able to smell it in the house, but when you walk in the room....BAM...it hits ya right in the face. A good charcole filter helps(made my own), but candles still had to be lit when we knew people were coming to veiw the place. Anyway....not trying to piss you off, you just kinda rubbed me the wrong way when you said people are laying about the temps in a cabinet. i'm just here to tell ya, thats just not so... After I harvested I kept a single clone to work with for bonsi. So far so good GL with your cabinet

first of all it was exaggerated to make a point, i certainly didn't mean it to be all inclusive and i apologize if you took offense. The point i was trying to make is that pot grows are hotter than shroom grows.
But you questioned my method, and I grew for quite some time... so you are trying to tell me that a 430W HPS light in a 30"x30" scrog cabinet (what I used) isn't going to go over 74-76? That's bullshit... I'm sorry I don't care how many CFMs your fan is rated at, that shit is going to be hot. gee... ok... maybe if I get the biggest dayton possible I could keep my temps lower but it'd sound like a friggin jet in there.
But what it really boils down to is that pot grows are more obvious than shroom grows, and that's really what I was getting at.

I can't imagine that would be heavy if you stripped out the condensor, and coils... (Most of a freezer is insulation isn't it?) That will be my next project... a room filled with 30 freezers isn't suspicious! I'll tell them I am an ice-cream vendor... Damn, now I have to buy an ice-cream truck... (This job is getting more and more fun as I sit here!)

Actually no....thats not what i'm trying to tell ya. Perhaps if you had mentioned that you were using a 430w bulb in a 30" box then I would have agreed with your statement. No way in hell or heaven are you going to get 74-76f in that. What were you thinking? Anyway i'm glad it's all cleared up Hope you do better this time around

There's still a lot of metal and what not in a freezer. That's usually what the whole outside of the thing is skinned with, hence all the magnets. The condenser and coils would drop a lot of weight though. Could probably take the door off too and drop a lot of weight.
When I was in college, my fridge in my apt. needed to be replaced. The guys who lugged it up the stairs were using some weird harness that went over their shoulders and distributed the weight between them evenly. They still looked like they were struggling. That job must suck.
