Well first problem I would see is more nutrients that may fight against the transition from veg to generative growth. It would also leave nutrients exposed on the sides of the cakes making them more prone to contam but if rolled in a sterilized casing mix it may benefit the cakes. I guess you'll have to have your friend try it on half his cakes and post his side by side results GL

I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"

I would think a good long rinse after the dunk would clear a lot of the "coffee" residue off of the sides of the cake. What's left shouldn't pose much of a problem for a fully colonized cake especially after rolling in dry verm.
I wouldn't mind trying this method out if that's ok with you. I'd report the results and give all credit of the idea to you, bruce. I've been thinking about certain things along these lines anyways but the "BRF Coffee" idea never entered my mind. I wonder what else might possibly be used in this BRF Coffee mix to give even better results. This is definately something to think about. You've got the gears turning upstairs now, hehe. Thanks.

I've read something by agar talking about endospores and germination. It talked about how more nutes=more germination, So in theory, it'd be better to dunk in "Dung Tea", I've only tried it once so far, and the results were pretty good. But this method was just for soaking the Grains in. So i don't know about ur idea, but the one thats been talked about b4 is pretty great, Good luck

Do you by chance remember the title of that thread or any key words I might use to search for it?

Whats left also wont pose much of a benifit for a fully colonized cake. Adding nutes after colonization is most likly either going to nothing, or bad things. But who knows maybe the verm will soak up a bunch in the cake and it will do good...I just highly doubt it.
You can use 50%coffee/50% water with grains to add nutes but I wouldnt suggest adding it any time except during the soak and simmer process before the grains get PCed. There has been luck when people use this method for adding nutes but ONLY pre-PC. Everyone who tried it either mixing coffee grounds in the casing, or misting with it, or dunking...got contams... Go check out the Advanced section..theres like a 10+ pages thread on coffee.

I was just thinking that it would replenish the nutes that were used during colonization thereby giving the cake more nutes to use in fruiting. I'm not well versed in mycology, it's just an idea that seems logical with what limited education I have in this field. I'll go check in adv cult and see what I can dig up. Thanks for the tip, scat.

I understand the thinking but I think the problem is that myc only really absorbs nutes during the colonization phaze....once fruiting I think it puts it energy to production and doesnt do much else absorbing. Not to mention that mycelium doesnt suck up water too well so anything colonized will do a bad job of sucking up water. I have not dealt with the PF tek but I've seen people try to add nutes to PF before with very very little success, only random, and only what appeared to be lucky. Even still usually contamed quickly. Its a big arsed thread (the coffee one) but I read that WHOLE thing at one point and it is interesting....
I should hope that people can find it since its like 10 topics down in the forum I posted but if not... The Coffee Project: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...e=0&fpart=1
Though the post is by Hippie...pay more attention to RodgerRabbits posts since its more his project then Hippies (Hippies just spreading the knowledge).

Nutes are nutes... Thats like saying I'll be casing my poo with rye which should be ok since it contains no poo.
