casing in a 20 quart container
    #3573759 - 01/03/05 02:00 AM (12 years, 23 days ago)

i have a clear 20 quart tub and about 10 pf jars and i was wondering if i could case them in it if i covered the bottom with perlite and put some casing material to cover it or would it be better to put vermiculite on bottom also about how thick would it have to be on top and the bottom layer?thanks

that's a pretty big casing. the problem you'd have here would be if it got contaminated, then the whole thing is f'ed. check the faq for more info on pf cakes and casings. my suggestion would be to just stick with the cake method for now and switch to casings later.

if your not experienced stay away from this for a bit, and try it again much later.

Make sure to cover the container along the sides, you dont want that thing pinning on the sides.

Lol.....ummm....letting perlite touch your substrate is a big no no....You're looking to do bulk, you've got 10 jars of spawn, and a nice size tub to do it in, i suggest you do a search, i'm positive you'll find what you're looking for and if you don't and want some help, then jus drop me a Pm,
Good luck

I used perlite in the same manner and it is much more prone to contams! You should try much smaller casings and maybe use the larger tub as a fruiting chamber.
