Afoaf has decided he really likes to grind his own brf. Problem is his coffee grinder, a Mr Coffee grinder, crapped out on him last time he was grinding flour. And he's pretty pissed that he can't drink his coffee in the morning. Is there a good coffee grinder that someone can recommend? He tried the blender but it really doesn't seem to be as consistent as the grinder. Thanx in advance.

I have an old starbucks coffe grinder, from back when they first opened. Works fine, but it overheats fast.

Yeah, you can't hold down the button. You have to do it in bursts.

Dont catch on quick? He couldnt be talking about himself growing mushrooms, that would be illegal and incriminating himself, hes obviously talking about his friend of a friend.

Thanks agar. He tried his blender with success but he had to stir it quite a bit. He liked the grinder just because he could shake it. ...as if I would dare to grow illegal mushrooms...

I've got my eye on a hand crank grain mill.. Mainly for brewing, and making my own flour. But the options are there for other uses as well... Most are $$, but if you look you can find a decent one pretty cheap.. Depends on "How" into making your own flour you want to be... :P

I agree, and blenders do more at once. You still have to make sure you don't overheat it though. afoaf destroyed lots of blenders back when he mostly used brf.

I won't post a direct link, but search for "Corn/Grain/Cereal Mill" on google. Bout the first link that comes up. Very decent price, fast, and doubtful you'll burn it out too soon..

If you figure in... Time, effort, damage to blenders, electricity, complications... You are better off just paying the extra money for the BRF sold a GNC or on the net.
Tell your FOAF that he should stop spending $60, for new blenders that crap out... and put the $60 directly into a proven product of BRF.
All blenders will crap out. They are designed for liquid processing, which is a short process and stops the device from overheating. Coffee bean grinders are designed for substances that shatter into dry flecks and don't tend to fill the grinder holes... also being done quickly.
BRF is moist inside, clumps, burns, and does not chop fast. You need a grinding wheel, like they use for all flours. They have used them since they were invented over 1000 years ago, and still use them.
If you can't find BRF, then I would suggest that you use presoaked whole grains, or a subsitute. Try WBS (Wild Bird Seed)
Better yet, soak your BRF for 24 hours, then drain all water, then add enough fresh water to just cover the grains. Blend that, Boom, water already added, and your blender will not crap out... as fast!!!

my g/f just got this nifty little mr. coffee burr grinder for the holidays. it doesn't use the spinning blades like the $15 ones, can run for an extended period of time and can probably handle about three times as much at once. It costs like $25 though... don't know about using it for BRF or grinding dried shrooms, but it makes some of the best damn coffee...

I've used a KitchenAid one for some months now. It's ground up a lot of tree bark and still works like new. I burnt out my blender, but this grinder feels like it's going to last a lot longer than that. I think it cost between $30-$40, I can't remember.

I picked up a coffee grinder at the thrift store for $1. At that price it is disposable
My local thrift store always has 5 or 6 on the shelf for $1 each. I also get 1 pint canning jars for $2 a dozen.
I recently came across this bad boy for $25 and it is GREAT!

Check the thrift stores in your area. You can get most of this kind of stuff for cheep!
