re using syringes?

i bought a spore syringe from sporechicks and used the spores, then i sterilized the syringe and made my own syringe from a print and used it. is it okay to use this syringe again? the needle is a burned color now from sterilizing it with a lighter so often and the tip is a little bent and doesnt work very well for scraping spores. do i need to throw out this syringe an get a new one?

It is up to you you can reuse a syringe over and over if you would like. I never use them for spores more that once. But you need to decide that. It sounds as if the one you have has had it.

so buy a new needle for 18 cents. presto.

http://www.drsfostersmith.com has them in bunches along with 12cc syringes

18 gauge 1-1/2 -- 2 inches

Make sure to clean your syringe good. There are always a lot of spores stuck in the groove of the rubber end of the plunger and around the bottom of the barrel. Tear a quarter-sized piede of tissue, wrap around plunger head and use to clean barrel. Then pc the parts. Reassemble with clean hands. Do this operation just prior to making new syringes.

As for the needle, I never flame them. As you can see, it ruins the needle and I believe also leaves carbon deposits of some kind. But thats another topic.....

I always re-use my syringes. Just make sure that you PC em and sterilze em before re-use. No contams as of yet. But then again a syringe costs $0.50 so why not be extra careful?
