You can't get fined but customs can confiscate your cacti. All cacti in the trichocereus genus are considered endangered species by the government so it is not a good idea to import them into Canada. This law doesn?t make sense since most of the cacti are grown from seed or cuttings from domesticated plants, go figure.
I have had about 50/50 luck with importing Peruvian torch and san pedro cactus. About haft have made it through and the other haft were taken.

I don't think any of the cacti that contain mescaline are illegal in Canada, so it probably wouldn't be stopped.

yes it could get stopped. I have got several notices from the customs board telling me trichocereus cacti are illegal to bring accross the border without a permit. The best you could hope for is to label the cacti a non endangered cacti and hope it fools the customs crack team of cacti indentifiers. Oh yeah when I phoned the customs to ask what the do with the confiscated cacti, they said they throw them into an incinerator. I know, it makes no sense. Why not just let the thing live
