Hi, i just picked a couple mushrooms from my backyard and was curious what they might be. lets see.

the cap is about an inch across, the stem is very mushy and pretty limp.

it smells similar to mushrooms i buy at the grocery store to cook with normally. the refrigerated ones.

the gills underneath are black, the top of the cap is a brownish almond color

i found a patch of these growing near a pepper tree in southern cali, i'm taking a spore print right now i'll post back later

i dont know how to insert pictures so i'll link these that i uploaded

thanks to everyone in advance, i am very interested in learning more about mushrooms and fungus and would appreciate any tips on identifying this.

Im going to take an amatuer stab at this and suggest some sort of coprinus. I think some kinds of coprinus' caps will start to turn to slime as they age, called inky caps. This is just a guess so wait for a more educated person to verify.
