Drying without desiccant
    #3563927 - 12/31/04 02:35 AM (11 years, 11 months ago)

Being lazy I never bought desiccant to dry my flowers for my dried flower collection - and I found I didn't need to...dunno if this has been shared before or not, but your HEPA filter filters moisture out of the air as well - place your flowers on top of the HEPAs air out part and in 2 to 3 days they will be cracker dry...I guess this could also apply if you're in amsterdam growing mushrooms and drying them as well

>your HEPA filter filters moisture out of the air as well

It doesn't.

>place your flowers on top of the HEPAs air out part and in 2 to 3 days they will be cracker dry

Because of the circulating air, yes. Same as every other fan.

A HEPA may absorb some moisture from the air but IMHO desiccants are far cheaper than HEPA's. sorry me bad

that's odd, i'de read they absorbed the moisture - and just a fan was so much less effective - maybe it's because the air blows up and not down then? Because it's definately got something that a fan doesn't when I compare both drying methods.

I used to do that prior to this, it made them dry but foldable - now they snap.

Is there a big motor on the hepa setup? Is it in the air stream? If so you may be warming the air, which would explain the improvement.

Hepa filters act like screen doors. If yours was absorbing water, it would be pulling gallons out of the room. Where would that go?

Leaving your blower on for days is just going to clog your filter sooner IMHO

It would only absorb a small amount anyway if it did, also remember your shrooms will dry differently at different times of the year, winters are known for there dry air and fan drying alone can often get shrooms cracker dry.
