Spore Syringe Sterility

A friend of mine purchased a spore syringe and we were planning on growing the mushrooms soon. For some reason or another he removed the cap on the syringe and accidentally pricked himself with the tip. Should I be worried about contamination of the spores now? This was done at least a couple weeks ago, so it's already to late to burn the tip or any such quick fix. If there is a reasonable risk of contamination should we just go ahead and try to grow the mushrooms or get a new syringe? Thanks guys.

Without using a peroxide method, its kinda a toss up.
Id suggest you flame sterilize the needle and go forward with plans. Just inoculate a small amount of substrate incase it is a waste. From there do a couple g2gs.
Just my 2 cents.

What exactly do you mean by peroxide method? Is that instead of flame sterlizing the tip and going ahead as usual. Also what do you mean by g2g. Sorry if the question are retarded.

read up, and g2g is grain to grain, it is a process of transplanting healthy mycelium into a new jar rather than using jars, it is faster as spores don't have to germinate (2-6 days)

Those arent stupid questions.
Peroxide method involves adding a small solution of peroxide to your media to help keep it contam free. Search for this on the forum.
G2G - Grain to grain. You spawn colonized grain to sterilized grain media and exponentually expand your culture.
If you are still in the PF-tek stage, hopefully I inspired you to expand your knowledge. For now, flame sterilize the needle until it turns red hot, whipe the outside with a alcohol rag and inoculate.

That peroxide advice may have been misleading. Keep the stuff away from your spores. Peroxide only comes into play after germination.
Flame your needle to red hot and wipe on an alcohol soaked paper towel. Remember that the cap pulls straight off. Don't twist it or you will remove the needle with it. Follow the PF tek and you will be fine. The G2G and the rest comes later.

Go to a drug store and get a new needle, they usually unscrew from the syringe.
Why would it be too late to burn it? Unless he drew his blood into the actual syringe, then it isn't too late to burn it. You should be doing that before you inoculate with it any-way... followed by an alcohol wipe after you burn it, while waiting for insertion into the jar.

Why do you suggest to buy a new needle? I was under the impression that the usual sterilization methods and peroxide later on should be sufficient. You even say yourself that it's not too late to sterilize the needle by burning it.

I wouldn't suggest removing the needle and putting a new one on. Instead, just flame the needle until it is red, then while squirt a little solution out while it is red (you need to get out any solution that might be sitting in the needle and contaminated). Then, pull in some air w/ the needle red (so that the air is sterilized as it goes in). Wipe it w/ alcohol and innoc your jars. Rewipe the needle w/ alcohol in between jars to ensure that you dont spread contams.
