Dead cubes??
    #3563271 - 12/31/04 12:06 AM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Okay well, this is weird, i live in the tampa area, and it had rained on christmas, the day after it was hot, and the day after that it was hotter. So 2 days after christmas i decided to check out a nearby field just to see if ic ould get a little christmas present. I found about 6 that were actually active, all cubes, but me and my friend came across something weird. There was patches of shrooms, but they were like pure white and the top was convex, there was a bunch, they looked like they had died, but then it got cold before they were totally gone and the cold preserved them, is that what happened? did they used to be cubes? the tops of them were sort of red, with the outside white. Any help would be cool. Thanks.

im goin to tell u that if they looked like they use to have golden brown tops and the shroomies were white around it and they were pretty brittle but still kinda gummy and smelt like strong cubes when u picked them and like shit after wards then u got dead cubes i got the same thing in my field after christmas i ate about 17 of them and hardly felt anything at all but u might want to post some pics with descriptions to know for sure

Do not eat them. There are poisonous species of Lepiota which fit that description.

Oh i wasnt planning on eating them, i was just thinking that maybe the night before was the night to go, and we ended up going the wrong day, they did look like they might used to be cubes. It just seemed like maybe they got too cold before they finished decomposing

Sometimes cubes will be all white, but you need to send pics.
Even if you dont eat em,you get them an ID and you will know in the future what to look for and get better and telling the goodies from the toxic ones.
