This is a cool thread. I'm no machinist but I've spent my life around machinists and fabricators, and I'm a pretty decent welder.
When I was going to propose to my wife I had absolutely no money to buy a ring. I went to my buddies shop (he's got a bunch of shit, including a 7-axis CNC) and I cut my wife a ring on a lathe out of a bar of titanium. That was what I gave to her the night I proposed. We bought her a wedding set later on when we could afford it but she still wears my homemade titanium band from time to time.

cool ive made some stainless steel rings that you pry off beer caps with lol. You can make just about anything with the right tooling/experience.

That's a cool story, not many people would go through all the trouble to manufacture a ring!
