Habitat-short grass
Cap-brown to tan depending on age/conditions, less than 2", becoming convex, often very slimy wet, gills visible through cap around the edge sometimes to center, minor nipple when young, becoming wavy.
Gills-light brown/tan color, unevenly spaced, unattached
Stem-1"-3" tall, fibrous, hollow by cap/solid at base, dark brown
Spore print- waiting on it
Grows usually single, have found at most 5 close together, but never growing in clusters from same base. Found the first ones in early October, they are still abundant.
Haven't seen it in a book or online.

Any educated guesses? Thanks.

A quick guess is Inocybe. The very silky fibrous cap and overall appearance suggests them. Do they have a distinctive odor (probably unpleasant)?

Happy mushrooming!

They have a mild unplace-able odor, not unpleasant though. Some kind of chemical smell.
thanks.

If you have multiple specimens, try putting them all in your hands, cupping your hands around them to concentrate the smell, and sniffing again. Most Inocybes have fairly distinctive odors, although there a bunch that don't.

Happy mushrooming!
