its been 3 weeks now since i inoculated 7 jars. im using quart size jars with wbs and i inoculated them each with 2.5cc of b+. its been 3 weeks and most of them look about 80-90% colonezed and 1 only looks about 50%. theve looked the same now for 3 days. should i wait longer or just go ahead and use them or what??

Is there something over the inoculation holes? Tape or tin perhaps? If it is take it off. Otherwise it might have to do with cO2 and other people will be able to help you with that Edit:and looking at the 3 days in a row isn't helping.

You should have used 2 like teks say..on e for injection, one for air exchange. Putting a bandaid instead of tape over it would help since bandaids breathe (and come sterile). I also hope you shook at about 15% colonized to distribute the grains evenly! Also excess moisture in the jars can pool up in the bottom to the end.
You should wait until they're fully colonize before using them or you risk contams..if you do not wait then ONLY use colonized grain when you case it and dont let ANY uncolonized grain in the casing. That should be a last resort though since your still risking your myc.

well heres a prob i noticed about 2 holes.one hole is covered but then air still gets through the other hole and you still have a hole in your tvek that you made with your syringe..so really think about it..oh wait thats if you put your tvek on top..haha i put mine on the bottom of my inside ring..

Thats another reason I stopped putting it underneath...however I dont think the contams can get from one hole to the other well since many people use tyvek underneath (and use two holes). I never actually had a problem with contams when I went underneath but I was worried about it..
BTW the 'inside ring'...the flat part is called the lid and outer the ring..if you talk about the two peices in that way people will generally know what you mean.

so would it be alright if took the lid off and left the outer ring on and taped over the holes in the tyvek from the needle?

That would quite probably dry out your jars but the biggest problem would be opening your jars up to contams. I would remove the tape and replace it with a bandaid or tin foil.

the way i have it though is the tyvek is under the lid on the jar so i can take the lid off and the tyvek will still be covering the top of the jar. should i take the lid off and put another hole in it for air exchange? or do you still think i should just use a bandaid?
