i have a shelf kinda like this

that i will line with plastic glass. and yesterday i orderd one of these

should i get a coolmist or ultra sonic humidifer ?? what do you guys think of this type of set up? i was thinking that at the top i would cut some 3" holes and put screens on them for air exchange should i add any fans

I think those setups are the best. use both types of humidifiers though. The coolmist goin 24/7 and the ultrasonic on a timer, on for a few minutes every few hours. The holes for air exchange should be at the bottom though. This is because carbon dioxide is heavier that oxygen. You want the tubes from the humidifiesrs at the top so rfesh oxygen pushes the carbondioxide out the bottom. The air circulation from the humidifiers will be enough, so fans are probably not necisary. Good luck man.

I dont think that controller will do you much good..it probably doesnt go high enough and wont work the way you want it. Go with a regular timer from homedepot... plus you don't want the cool mist ever shutting off, you will want the ultra to go off though.

I would get one of each and forget the holes...the cool mist will provide all the air exchange you need. The ultrasonic will give you extra humidity. You may not need the ultra..try it with just a cool mist on 24/7 first along with misting. Adding an ultrasonic would reduce or eliminate need for misting or may be needed along with misting and the cool mist to keep up rh. What you need and what to set timers at can only be found out by you throuh trial and error since your ambiant rh is different then mine.

Fans should not be linked to the outside but IMO a fan or two would make a good addition inside the chamber just to circulate the air inside and prevent co2 pockets. I'm sure one would be enough with the cool mist.

Search for Magashs post on his humidifier setup.

what do you mean high enough it goses up to 90%rh and you can control it in 1% incurments i was thinking i could probly hook a fan up to it too so that if it got too high the fan would turn and curculate the air so its not stangnet would that be a good ideia

:grin:I like the idea, it's a hard Martha. I was thinking of something like that but the price of the plexi I like is through the roof. Put the holes for the air exchange in the floor or the bottom cause one thing Martha users can tell ya is you want that water build up to drain out.
Make some kind of tray to put it in. for a Martha I like the driveway pans used to catch oil lined with a little 6 mil plastic.

I think you'll have a killer chamber if you do it

Start off with a cool mist and a spray bottle then add an US as needed. Put the holes in the bottum of the terrarium, make sure they are filtered. Cool mist should provide ample air exchange.

i see everyone shot down your 90 dollar purchase there. I disagree. put that in the grow chamber hook the Ultrasonic to that. It will automaticaly maintain a great enviroment. if i recall right.. that thing works by turning on the circut when the RH drops below a certain pointand then shuts off once that point has been reached.. which is IDEAL for what you are doing :o

the controller is great, throw your ultra sonic on the controller so it can bring the humidity up and keep it there. Turn your cool mist on 24/7, never turn it off and never let it run dry. Your idea is great, but wouldnt wrapping it in 4mil plastic be easier and cheaper? IMO at least a single small fan is ideal in these shelving units. That steel will rust, so you may/should treat it to prevent rusting.
