A Few quickies...
    #3558967 - 12/29/04 10:42 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

Hi all. Just a few quick questions.

1) Can shiitake myc be cultivated on agar?

2) Can I purchase shiitakes from the store, and create a viable spore print from them?

3) Should I spend the 25 or so for a shiitake print online, or can somone make a suggestion for an alternative?

I know what strikes me as odd about this. It is totally unnatural. The whole idea is just totally backwards.

So are historians going to look back at 'The Great Cake Eaters'? Damn. That was a backwards step in the evolutionary process. We left Shroomheads in the dust. Welcome to the new age of Vermheads.

I ONLY STUDY legal, edible mushrooms and mycology. Any mention of any other kind of mushroom is purely fictional, and pictures are ripped from the internet. I do not grow mushrooms!

1) yes

2/3) how about getting a culture through a trade and skipping the print and going straight to culture?

:mushroom2: Yes, the best agar media will be PDYA + 5 grams sawdust.
:mushroom2: the shiitake spores in the shiitake mushroom will be O.K
but you also get bacteria and mold spores.
the best will be to get a strain by cloning or buy a proven fruiting strain. (18$ from sporeworks )
:mushroom2: do not buy spores of edible mushrooms, buy proven strain on agar or liquid.
