I want to grow nuts!
    #3558702 - 12/29/04 09:21 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

not peanuts

i LOVE nuts.  i have recently gotten walnut and hazel nut trees cause they grow large and produce excellent in our climate.  but now i want to grow more exotic nuts.

when i was into frogs i remember almond leaves were quite expensive and hard to find plants.  is this still teh case?

i also want to grow cashew, pecan, brazil (always wanted to bonsai one of these), and filberts.  i know NOTHING about these filberts, but they are damn good tasting.

anyway this sint to save money on buying nuts, its to have the trees/plants.  so dotn be calling me a cheap fuck

thansk for any help.

check out http://tytyga.com/
I buy bare root trees from them much cheaper than $25/gal
a 5 gallon (5ft) apple tree runs $16, that a tree thats
2 years away from producing

the site looks shady because of the bad photoshop pics
but they are very legit, I had to drive down and place
my first order in person to verify it.

Pecans shouldn't be that difficult, they grow wild all over texas. I believe it's actually the state tree. Oh course you're in a slightly different climate, but according to this site:

http://www.arborday.org/programs/NationalTree/pecan.cfm

They grow in zone 5-9, whichh should include you if you're not too far inland.

This site may be helpful, though it's mostly about growing pecans in an orchard type situation:

I debated for 2 months and looked for other suppliers for trees, I was planning a trip to st. augustine and decided to stop in on my way back home, I was pleased
to discover that they were legit and their prices were great

as for the uglystick... residents of the area are beaten from birth

Lol, I used to missname hazelnuts as acorns in the store because they look like acorns without the "hat".

When I showed my parents the edible landscaping webpage I had them convinced to get pawpaw and a persimmons trees.  But now I think I am going to have to re-landscape the entire property.

I found bad news in their FAQ dude.

Quote:

Do we ship internationally? |back to top|
Yes, we ship internationally. We have a minimum order of $1000 before we ship internationally and shipping cost is 40% of the total order. An additional cost of $50 is needed to get a phytosanitary certificate. However, please be aware after we ship an item internationally the U.S. Department of Agriculture has the right to quarantine any plants they see fit, to grow them first, in a controlled location before releasing them to the original addressee to verify they are in good condition. Quarantines do not usually happen so it is not common for that to happen but it is always a possibility. Before we ship our plants internationally we do have them inspected by our local agricultural department to make sure they are free of any type of disease or pest. We ship internationally all the time and are capable of handling your requests.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the minimum order before we can ship? |back to top|
The minimum order before we can ship in the United States is $50 and the minimum order to Ship outside the U.S. is $1000

I'm not really sure if that includes Canada though. But what I am sure of, is that your own government's customs will rape you through your wallet when you go to pick it up.

holy moly.  i dont got 1k us to spend thats for sure :frown:

theres always customs and permits needed, im used to that procedure.  i guess plants are pretty expensive to ship....400 minimum shipping is a big one!

oh well, maybe i'll see if i can get it shipped to some friends house south of the border then go down for a visit.  im thinking htis will be the easiest way perhaps.

PawPaws are really tasty, Persimmons you'll want to wait until after the first
hard frost to eat the fruit, they are pretty bitter before then, deer love them
I have several persimmons and all the lower branches are stripped bare from
the deer

yes, they do ship internationaly and in most cases its same day shipping, they
are the best I've found so far, this fall I'll be going to an orchardist expo,
it will give me a line on more stock and a wider variety.

if you plan on ordering more than $500 in trees, let me know, I may be able to save you a chunk on shipping

he'll have up to one month to plant, they're sent bare root in the water grabber
gel, they only ship when the trees are dormant so there is less shock.

with that kinda rate, I can guarantee I could ship them cheaper, I'm supposed to drive down and pick some up in a few weeks anyway, its nothing to grab a few extras and drop them in the ground until you can afford to have them shipped
and if you decide you dont want them, it wont hurt me to keep them

its certainly not like I dont have room.

perhaps in the spring (when i have a bit more extra cash so i can put a real order in) i can hit ya up if your ever down tehre again.  but for now i think i would be wasting your time....got like 50-100 to spend at current   thansk again though.

do you currently have a garden going?  go tany pics you would share?  im loving that property... seems to have a lot on it.
