Plastic wrap wet, should it be removed?
    #3558261 - 12/29/04 07:16 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

THis is a bulk question, but I dont have enough posts for that section. Followed the shroomgod straw bulk tek, but the plastic is wet, and beading water is on the plastic. Should I remove the plastic? Its 7 days into incu, and myc is popping through to the outside now. Im sure beading water = big contam risk, so should it come off?

Oh and yes there are many holes and slits now in the plastic but Its not enough.

The straw is still quite wet(not overly) but Im sure it would remain moist without plastic. Anyways just looking for some experience help

It sounds like you covered the top of the bin with plastic and not the top of the STRAW. The plastic should be laying directly on the straw...preferably with a light diffuser and some bricks on top...if the plastic is covering the top of the bin the air between the straw and the plastic will cause the straw to dry out. Sounds to me thats why the beads are forming.

The plastic is around the straw directly, its just very large and I found it hard to "bag" it tightly( I just wraped around and taped with good tape. I dont have any kind of weight on top of it though. Im sure if I leave it or take it off it wil be fine, so Im going to leave it on, but still slice up the plastic more.

As long as its right against the straw you shouldnt have a problem with it drying out and the water droplets wont harm it. What you heard about water drops harming myc really only applies to myc thats grown through the casing layer...at that stage its important that the myc doesnt get flattened and matted down from water or you'll run into overlay problems. At the colonization stage a little condensation on the sides of jars, bags, or plastic shouldnt hurt. As long as the water isn't pooling up.

As ^^^^ said that condensation is not a problem. I see it on all of my straw projects.
