Music to die during
    #3555241 - 12/28/04 11:25 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

Everyone knows that the same names come up during all the "what should I listen to while I trip" posts. So lets try something different, hopefully generating interesting results. Pretend you know you are going to die during the next song. You are comfortable, in no pain, but cannot survive the song. What do you suggest to die too?

Alternatively, a friend is dying and their dying wish is to put on a good final piece of music for them to listen to as they peacefully pass on.

What do you suggest (albums are OK, individual songs are better)?

My choices:
Radiohead: Kid A, How to Disappear Completely, Motion Picture Soundtrack, Let Down
Porcupine Tree: Collapse the Light into Earth
Download: Affirmed
System of a Down: Aerials

I'll post my motivation later (not suicidal, no one is dying, don't worry!)

NIN- A Warm Place

What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know,
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection,
Is it all you want it to be?

Shpongle - Are You Shpongled?

I have had so many good times tripping with that CD, dying to it would be perfect. Nice and loud on a home theater and I'm gone.

The Mosquito Song
by Queens Of The Stone Age
---

I know, I know the sun is hot...
Mosquitoes come and suck your blood.
Leave you there, all alone...
Just skin and bone.

When you walk among the trees,
Listen boy, to their leaves
The further I go, the less I know...
The less I know.

Where will you run?
Where will you hide?
Lullabies...
To paralyze.

Fat and soft, pink and weak...
Foot and thigh, tongue and cheek...
You know I'm told, they swallow you whole...
Skin and bone.

Cutting boards and hanging hooks...
Bloody knives, cooking books...
Promising, you won't feel a thing,
At all.

Swallow and chew...
Eat you alive.
All of us food, that hasn't died...
And the light says...

Simmering, pick and pluck...
Tenderize, bone to dust.
The sweetest grease, the finest meat
you'll ever taste...
Taste, taste...

So you scream, whine, and yell...
the supple sounds of dinner bells...
We all will feed, the worms and trees,
so don't be shy.

Swallow and chew...
Eat you alive.
All of us food,
that hasn't died...

Well, if I were to die in a peaceful manner, I would want to hear a peaceful beautiful song....  (Noting that I prefer heavy metal normally....)

Out of the list above, I liked:
Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb

My personal choices would be:
Led Zep - The Rain Song
Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin

The Rain Song has always been my favorite "beautiful" song - starting with the backwards strummed "G" chord - (if I am not mistaken, he is playing an open "G" tuning?)....    So if I had to pick one, that is what it would be.....
