For later in life, after I've worked a bit and saved up some money, I was thinking of going to a poor third world country and buying a house there. Their currency would be much weaker than the dollar, so that money would suddenly be worth a lot more to get a house, food, and such and still live very good, saving money compared to living here.

I'd be helping their economy too :wink:

But what's a good country to do this? A country not plagued by AIDS, without draconian drug laws, not filled with violent civil wars and more warm or tropical in nature. Any suggestions?

I was thinking along the lines of Mexico, but lower, perhaps Costa Rica. I've heard that Costa Rica is a very nice place, not too bad for a third world country

According to the CIA Factbook and others, Thailand has quite the AIDS, harsh drug laws and pretty big environmental problems.

Canada also seems like a pretty stable third world country, but also pretty cold in most places. BC doesn't seem that bad though, though Canadians are a vicious bunch

I hear there's only one road in Canada, and that Saddam Hussein was the Prime Minister. I don't know how true these are though.

live in Chiapas in southern Mexico and pick shrooms in the mountains and chill with shamans.

you might have to shit in a field since they don't have great/any irrigation systems in smaller villages and watch out for pigs and dogs trying to knock you over when you're squatting. also, watch out for the Zapatistas but they're harmless. there is a city that attracts tourists near there that has cheap but good meals and decent Mexican beer or so I'm told.
