Echelon as previously stated monitors or tries to monitor all communication that is happening in the world. Super computers filter this communication and searches for keywords. This systeim is used on the people of the United States of America. It is not neccessarily being done by the US Governement but by a foreign government and information then is exchanged.

There are tons of things that can cause echo on phone lines, and I'm pretty sure recording isn't one of them. Even if say, poor quality recording equipment caused an echo, which I supposed there might be some way that it could, I doubt that the "authorities" would be using that kind of equipment.

If they're using filters with voice recognition, they're going to use it to catch terrorists. Not closet shroomers. That just wouldn't be cost effective for them.
Oops! I just typed terrorist! Now they're after me!!

The NSA supposedly has a 20 terrabit computer that is monitoring all communications. It works by keyword recognition. The patriot act has now made it legal for them to snoop on you.

Sounds kinda BS-ey to me. What part of the Patriot Act states you can spy on absolutely anyone's communications for no reason? Maybe it's in there, but I'm not going to believe it until I see it.

The patriot act does allow FBI to investigate suspected terrorists without obtaining a warrant. They can look up your library habits, make phone taps, surveillance and even enter your property without a warrant.
Yeh mostly crank dot net :-)
Peace

What the hell does that even mean. 20 terrabit processor? 20 terrabit storage capacity? 20 terrabit bandwidth.
Yeah, thats what I thought. Let's face it folks, its fun to be paranoid, but put the fucking tinfoil back in the drawer. The NSA isn't watching you, probably couldn't pull their heads from their asses long enough to even identify you. That is unless you are wearing a damn towel on your head living in a fucking cave in Afganistan.
Are your local cops listening to your cell phone conversations: No. Did the DEA dispach a taskforce to watch your house because you picked up a dime: No. Is the CIA trying to reprogram your brain with radiowaves: No.

Use strong encryption. 2048-bit not good enough? One-time pads. Problem solved.

Yes i would like to say something it is illegal to record a conversation over the phone and use it in a courtroom unless at least one party on the recorded phone conversation is aware that the conversation is being recorded. So, unless your being setup i wouldn't worry about it too much.
