Shroomery Constitution
    #3550075 - 12/27/04 08:08 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

With all due respect, abuse of power by the mods and admins has gotten way out of hand. I fully recognize the need to regulate what goes on here, but it's just gotten ridiculous. The founding fathers of America invented a way to curb the abuse of power. It was called a Constitution, specifically enumerating what the functions of government would be, and forbidding them from stepping outside those bounds. I feel we need something similar here on the Shroomery. You've already laid down some ground rules for us to follow. Now we need to establish what specific actions mods are justified in doing and what they are not. I am uncomfortable with mods having final say over their actions in all cases.

No offense, ss7, but trying to compare the Shroomery to an actual country is ridiculous.

The big difference being: when a mod makes a bad decision, no one gets their head chopped off or dies for it. :smirk:

This is a privately owned web site, not a country.

Oh fucking wave that flag.

Haven't we learned a lesson in history about what happens to a society when it's bound by a constitution?

Just 200 years later and we will have Shroomery bullshit drug laws too I guess.

You are a leftist. You take this shit waaaaaay too seriously.

Power is power, and abuse is abuse. The ramifications of bad administrative decisions may be significantly less than real-world decisions, but it does not mean we should not limit the capacity for abuse of power.

Personally I don't think I have any power whatsoever over anyone :smirk:

It is rather interesting, though, that people like to say we have some unspoken and profound POWER over the people who post here.

When was the last time you went to a bar/club? Do you think bars should have a constitution?

Shirley knott's recent actions indicate that you mods have a great deal more power than you should.

No, but they cater to their customers.  If a bouncer makes enough unpopular decisions, people will stop going and that bouncer will get fired.  I have half a mind myself to leave this place after Swamigate.

This is what I don't get: what is this mysterious power you speak of? Honestly! How do I, or any other mod/admin have any real power over any of you?

Well, for one, you have the power to ban people, apparently without much justification.

I have the power to remove people from a privately owned website? Yes, I suppose I do. Only for 24 hours at a time, though :smirk:

Shit, last time I got kicked out of a bar it was a "AND DON'T COME BACK!" deal.

Though I think this Swami thing has been handled shoddily, I think the idea of a constitution is fucking ridiculous.

If we had to pay a membership fee, then I could see this being reasonable. This is a free site, though, and we are privelidged to be members here, it is not our right.

yes, it's just an internet website, not a country. That's what I meant by taking this shit too seriously.

I think that given the choice, if it were it available, some people would actually opt to move into cyberspace and live in the Shroomery apartments.

Fucking pathetic.

I figured this wouldn't go over too well. Oh well. It was worth a try. But please, admins, do something about the abuse of power. It's getting to the point where I feel like I can't express my opinions anymore.

Bull shit, you can express any opinion you want.

Show me where a mod has stopped you?

Are you pretending to be swami?
