here in south TX.does anyone know if you can find meanies in the spring I always collected in mid summer in a field where thats all that grows but only after the spring cubes are done in the other fields, this year I wanted to check and see if I could reap some little blue devils in early spring?

Ok thanks,I got the general season from what I just read, but I suppose I was looking for A more specific answer, like, what month does any one start finding copes, what time of month, begining, end some thing like that.Maybe if someone lives close to my area and is more specific I can find out when the general season is around here to make the most out of my shrooming each season.

One form of research is asking experienced people, theDman. I don't actually know anyone from Texas and I don't think I've ever even talked to anyone, at the shoomery, from Texas. I don't even know what genera or species a blue meany is, but if you can find out. Then it should be easy to find the substrate, range and season. Then you can combine the three to generate a success-full hunt.

Blue meanies originated as a nick-name in Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand in the mid 1960s to 1070 or so and it was used to identify Copelandia cyanescens which blue extremely well after picking if not handled with care. the bluing is the oxidation of psilocine form the mushroom.

Mj.

There are one or two people here who sometimes have called some strain fo cubesnsis as a blue meanine, but that nick-name has no connection to any cubensis.

It was taken from the chraters in the Yellow Submarine movie of the Beattles.

yeah, I thought he was talking about pan cyans first but then he mentioned cubes, so I'm not sure. Anyhow,

depends on what part of south TX you are in. If you're in southeast TX (near Beaumont or thereabouts), I would think you could find some cubes tomorrow (little too late for an excursion unless you like night hunting). I'm in southwest LA and expect to find some tomorrow or Friday depending on when I have some time.

I find pan cyans (or copes as they are called by most here) during the late summer and through the fall. I was finding them up until about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Check some of my posts of hunts in the last couple of months.

The cubes are here all through the winter/spring/summer/fall absent a drought, and I've even found them during droughts believe it or not- of course, I am a bit more persistent than most hunters.

HAPPY NEW YEARS!
