Let me be the first to post on this HUGE devastation..

Also.. Anyone ever think that terrorists could somehow trigger tsunami waves in the form of an attack?

Yes, using all their "bad-guy energy" as some scientists like to call it, they summon massive walls of water to attack innocent, unknowing countries.

I guess we're 90,000 deaths short of a statistic

You know nothing..  Several mountian ranges (islands) in the world could have a side blown that would trigger a tsunami wave capable of destroying New York or California..

Ever watch "Tsunami" on the Discovery Channe.?  They cover this in detail..    A Mountian sliding into the ocen could create a wave hundreds of feet high and they could travle far enough to destroy an entire coastline...

This has been proven in tests done by our military  done in Alaska with glaciers...

Whoa there. Slow your roll, Tito. I'm sure the "terrorists" wouldn't blow up a mountain side to make a tsunami. This one was done by an earthquake. The "terrorists" would be more interested in blowing buildings and cars up than making waves....

If they had enough explosives to blow up the side of a mountain, wouldn't it just be easier to put it in a heavily populated area?

Nope... A bomb the size to blow up a small building could easily cause a "mega wave" which is smaller than a "tsunami" and could kill THOUSANDS.

Gees, dont you people know anything about potential ecological disasters?

A small bomb placed on a underwater shelf can cause a massive underwater land slide similar to a avalanche. That can then cause huge Tsunami's

Speaking as someone that was recently at some of the places that were devastated by the tsunami, I can't even begin to express my concerns about friends that are still in these areas...and sorrow for those that have been left homeless or without families. While this is an open forum for the most part...I find it somewhat disturbing the cavalier attitude that is being shown here over this mind numbing loss of life.

Yes and theirs several thousand places in the world that this could be done.. With a bit of research and planning it would be safer for a terrorist to pull off a Tsunami attack than it would to hijack another 757 and fly it into a building..

Still our greatest threat is from a nuclear bomb being smuggled into a busy port.

Rono.. I feel your pain. All of our Sushi Makers at work are from Indonesia and they are all the greatest people.. Ive never been their but from everyone Ive met I know that its the nicest place on earth.
