Drying

I am unable to get a fan of any sorts till next tuesday and already shrooms are ready for harvesting.. is it ok to dry them in the oven with just the oven light on?

Air movement is important.
Hang them in front of the computer fan outlet at the back of your cumputer.

good idea.. do i have to hang them or can i place them on a piece of wax paper atop a stool?

no fan is necessary if you live in a "comfortable" environment. that is room temp with relatively low humidity... simply put a cake cooling rack on a tray or something and lay the shrooms on top. they will release moisture into the air and dry quite quickly because there is a lot of air flow. after that for a few days put em in a dessicant chamber...

Try a desicant. Damp Rid or some of that driveway ice melting stuff works wonders.

I've been putting my shrooms on some wire mesh after picking them, and they dry out very quickly this way. You can't get them "cracker dry", but they're reduced to a leathery or crunchy state in a day or two, comparable to using a fan I think.

a little under-planning and improper construction of a dessicant chamber...
This is a pic of a "typical" dessicant chamber:


Both levels are made of chicken wire. The bottom level , is where you dessicant is placed. It is layed on some paper towel. The top level is where your fruits go. The water is absorbed by the dessicant and wicks down to the bottom of your container. Eventualy you will have to pour this out. ... peace
