Where are my Pins?
    #3544226 - 12/26/04 03:14 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

I don't know if it's just my impatience or inexperience, but do these cakes look like they will ever pin? I've had three of them in my fruiting chamber for 11 days without dunking them or anything, and the middle one was cold-shocked and only in there for three days now. My humidity has been 99%, or so my 34 dollar gauge says. The temperature has been between 20 and 23 celsius and now that I've moved the fruiting chamber to a colder area the temp gauge seems fucked up but I know its a little cooler, maybe 20 tops. Am I just impatient? Is it possible to have that cover up type growth I've read about when you do casings? Help--I just want to grow some mushrooms!

Are you giving them 12 hours of light a day? Be patient, I've had casings that took 16+ days to pin. It happens.

I have had many cakes take over 2 weeks to pin, its not rare, just have to wait.

Nowhere in your post do you mention fanning. Fresh air is one of the things that triggers pinning. Keep your humidity up and fan out the fruiting chamber several times per day.

if you already did what you said, just wait

personnally I prefer to "in vitro" them, eliminates that problem, even so, inside the the jar the pinning takes it's time also

I wouldn't go any lower than 20C in the fruiting chamber as a standard.
You might want to check out the "temperature cycling" thread...
Beyond that just make sure they have fresh air, light, and moisture.
