How does this picture make you feel?
    #3543790 - 12/26/04 07:19 AM (19 years, 2 months ago)

Not think, feel!

Happy, sad, excited, scared, nervous, frustrated?

Just post your feelings and nothing more, I'll explain later  :mushroom2:

nothing, i cant really say i had any true emotion arise from that picture.

The feeling I get is being awe-struck. There is so much detail, strangeness, and symbolism present in the picture that it's somewhat of a sensory overload. Fear would seem a natural response but I really don't feel that, it's like a picture of a force of nature, it's bigger than fear if that makes any sense.

That is Kali

Maha Kali : Kali is the goddess of dissolution and destruction. She is known for destroying ignorance, and she helps those who strive for knowledge of God.

Basically Kali is a destroyer of egos - so is it any surprise most of us are a little scared or anxious?

Bigger than fear... I like that.

I'm in awe... I've heard of ambidextrous, but this is ridiculous! There's like 10 arms there.

I'd say this picture makes me confused, it'd have to be explained to me to know the symbolism and all. The swords, skulls and red background suggest this hinduistic diety is a god of war or something? I dunno, but that necklace is pretty sweet though, I'd wear that shit. bling bling

Sad. Religious pictures usually make me sad or at least disappointed. Sad or disappointed that in this age of science people still allow themselves to be led by irrational mythology.

Yes, because science can explain why we are here, why we can think, and why we can create these higher entities in our minds. Science is lacking many explainations. There is no need to condescend just because someone has different beliefs.

The same Kali like the one in the Indiana Jones movies?
That is one evil god then..

certainly not evil! western writers/philosophy/religion/etc have had a difficult time dealing with mythology like Kali or Shiva. in the western context, they are "evil" because they are destroyers - they are always pictured as fearsome, with human heads in their hands, blood at their feet, and so forth. but in the hindu tradition they are not evil at all. Shiva is a part of the "trinity" of hinduism - Brahma the Creator, Vishnu the Preserver, Shiva the Destroyer. in the Christian tradition, one might see Brahma and Vishnu as God and Jesus, and Shiva as Satan. but this is not the way that it is interpreted in Hinduism... Shiva and Kali are a very necessary part of the "circle" of existence - that which is created must be destroyed, so that more can be created, only to be destroyed, ad infinitum. the depicition of Shiva and Kali in Indiana Jones is a perfect example of the western mis-interpretation of these gods.

Kali isn't evil... fearsome, perhaps. blood-thirsty, definitely. one bad mama-jama, for sure. but not evil
