Jesus Christ, is all i have to say... well not all.
This is one of those movies that is really excellent, but makes you feel bad when its over. Than when you watch the documentary in the special features section, you realize, oh damn, it really is that bad (worse actually).

Its basically a bunch of Brazilian children killing each other. Give it a watch, it will make you feel grateful to live, wherever it is you live.

yeah, I just saw that movie for the first time a few weeks ago. Amazing, some of the scenes in that movie are as intense as it gets for film

its an unimaginably horrific film.
very well produced.

very true, people living within the slums are in a terrible situation.
however it's interesting to see the gangs very generous toward other families within their communities, not actually involved in the dealing, as much as they can be they seem to be very protecting of others.

seeing children with machine guns murdering drug dealers however is something i don't wish to see again :frown:

yeah, pretty disturbing movie to those not familiar with the severity of the subject matter. I'm somewhat surprised at its success and that it keeps getting bigger. the buzz has definitely picked up a lot since I watched it in 2002. #23 on IMDb even though IMDb ratings mean shit to me.

also, the series "City of Men" ("Cidade dos Homens") is probably better than the movie if you get a chance to see it:

i love that film... i first watched it with a friend from Sao Paulo - although the specific slum "City of God" is in Rio, there are very similar places in Sao Paulo - and he was telling me how he had gone down there many a time to buy drugs, and had seen similar shit going on...

i loved this film. it's one of those that's hard to love because of the tragedy. the movie was done well....but it still leaves an impact. bless the children who go through it day to day.

good film
I think the scene that affected me most was when that little tiny runt got shot in the foot, right after the other one got it in the head.

This is an incredible film, did you all know that about 70% of the actors in that film have since died. The people in the film were not true actors, the director, Fernando Meirelles practically took them off the street because he wanted to make it as geniunely authentic as possible. i.e. guns and crime were the mainstay of their lives which they returned to after the film was made with tragic consequences.
