VACUTAINERS
    #3542726 - 12/25/04 09:16 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

STERILE & CONTAINS A VACCUM. Has applications for sterile long term storage of myc isolates off agar plates in sterile water, also for shipping spore solution, etc, etc.

Plug can be injected or asperated through & reseals. Sometimes found at medical surplus & supply -or- 100 to 1000 can be had on eBay for WAY CHEAP.

LOL..... I learned QUICKLY how strong vaccum inside is. Went to inject spore solution, pierced plug with needle ...... instantly..... strong vaccum pulled syringe plunger down & filled vial.

So, if you only want to inject X amount, grip syringe in fist, hold plunger UP with thumb, to control injection. Otherwise, internal vaccum will.

You can get the stoppers themselves. Agar's actually the one who posted the link  Let me see if I still have it, if not I'm sure he'll post it. Well the one I have left is https://www.sciplus.com/lw/category.cfm?category=50  I think thats it..

This is a REALLY excellent idea! These containers are GREAT for storage of a spore solution for someone who is only using a couple drips of it from time to time for agar or liquid culture. You can shake them hard to mix up the solution, and when it's time to dispense, just rub the stopper with some alcohol, poke, and draw what you need, be it a drop or a few ccs.

A friend of mine sent me some spore solutions in those containers and they really kick ass. He must of found out about it through this post. I can't believe how awesome the idea really is. I would nominate it as the best idea I have recently read about next to the use of the Oust spray. Vacutainers also probably cut down chances of contamination from air that potentially could be drawn in and out of the syringe from temperature fluctuations in the refrigerator caused by the defrost cycle and opening and closing the door.

Just out of curiosity, what happens if the vaccutainers DO have anticoagulant or some other shit in them?

The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum - even encourage the more critical and dissident views. That gives people the sense that there's free thinking going on, while all the time the presuppositions of the system are being reinforced by the limits put on the range of the debate

They also work perfect for very long term storage of myc isolates in sterile water. They will store for decades.

You want the ones with the RED caps. All the others have some BS in them & are not suitable.

I wondered this exact thing. If the anticoagulant worked to actually keep the spores from coagulating without affecting their viability, it would be a very GOOD thing, but I don't know enough about it to know if that is the case. If you want to experiment, please let me know how it turns out.
