sporeless sporeprints

Tell me what I'm doing wrong: I've tried three times to make a sporeprint, using two different cubensis strains, but my caps don't leave any kind of mark at all. Could I be picking them too soon... maybe they don't begin sporulating until a couple of days after they break their veils? Thanks, WW

Yeah, wait until the gills turn dark. Usually a day or so after the veil tears.

What kind of setup are you using to take your prints? It could be that you arent keeping the humdity up for them cap to drop the spores.

Sounds like you are picking your shrooms a little early for printing. Wait till the cap flattens out more and the gills turn dark, like said above, then print for 12-48 hours to allow as many spores as possible to drop.

Thanks, well that's easy enough; I'll just wait a little longer before picking my sporocarps. Allowing a few mushrooms to become "over-ripe" won't end the fruiting cycle, will it?

You have to be carefull that your cubes do not drop spores inside of your terrarium. Spore covered casings/cakes will definately not produce as much. The best time to pic your spore droppers is right when the cap starts to flatten out.

Technically waiting longer is not over-ripe (thats something a bit different), but waiting until the cap is mature won't do anything different to the fruiting cycle, its the whole reason for the fruiting cycle.

I thought that maybe once the fungus had successfully sporulated it might go into hibernation and the fruiting cycle would be over. Good to know that's not the case.
