Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie at this stuff and about 3-4 days ago I innoculated my jars. Now there is a cob-webby looking substance on my substrate. It is white but I don't think it is what mycelium is supposed to look like (although it is white). It is growing throughout my substrate though. Please help!!!! I don't know what I'm looking for.

Yeah it's kind of wispy and it is white... Isn't mycelium supposed to be like a solid pure white??? What I have is like real thin webby substance and it's colonizing the whole jar. Do you know how cobweb mold starts growing?

better sterilisation might help that - ive found that cobweb mould is generally a gray sort of colour...

My mold is white. I can't really tell but I now think it might be mycelium. When it first grows is it thin??? From all of the gallery pics it is solid white.

In my experience, i've seem mycelium develop in lots of different ways. It sometimes starts out very thin and wispy and then gradually builds thicker and thicker, and then theres the opposite, which is the mycellium starting off really thick in a small area and then spreading out.
Chances are, if its white and occurs around 4 days after, its gonna be mycelium.
Good luck

chonger is spot on! i am guessing u are a newbie so sorry for the assumption. i just rememer how much i worried when i started out. mycellium can start off in soooo many different ways. i have had cobweb mould ONCE in ONE jar ONLY! personally i think this is quite unlikely. most moulds will come from unclean jars. always clean jars thoroughly with disinfectant and/or a bleach solution between use.
pink, purple, red, yellow... all those fantastic colours are the result of incomplete cleansing between use. only green (trich.) and bacterial infections are likely to be introduced after sterilisation!
