possible maitake tek
    #3541423 - 12/25/04 04:17 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

i know i am still pretty new here but i have some thoughts towards maitake techniques.and a few questions. 1 they need very high humidity and cannot fruit well directly from th bag. true or false?
2. is it possible to birth them into a runbbermaid terrarium that uses a computer fan for airexchanges and a vix humidifier?  and if so is it possible to use a series of computer fans and tubing to allow one humidifer to create enough fog for multiple rubbermaids?
2.5  or would the double tub tek work better?
3    can the fruiting substrate be cased with maitake?should it?
4    how is co2 measured( off topic but pertains. this answer may help others trying to grow co2 sensitive species, such as enoki)

i guess what i am thinking of is setting up a mini hvac sytem.  with multiple little rooms.  one would think this may be expensive but i think its cheap.  little cpu fans can be picked up dirt cheap along with insulated ducting. my only worry is how much output can i expect from the humidifier, as this is the limiting facter as to how many terrariums i can hook up off the one humidifier i have.

I haven't attempted to grow maitake indoors so I cannot answer your questions with absolute certainty. The last two questions... I've never read anything about casing a maitake block. It would probably just risk contamination. And very few people measure co2. Instead, we measure fresh air exchanges per hour.

Oh, and you'll probably go through a CPU fan every week if you use it to push humid air into the fruiting chamber. Those things will drop dead if they get a drop of water on them.

Not true. I have run several CPU fans inside 100%rH terrariums and regularly sanitise them by spraying alcohol directly into the spinning blades. the factory ones screwed onto PII heatsinks, to be specific... so these are even pre-used I have not had one die on me in over 2 years since i began using them.

I admit that YMMV with different fans and that you are guaranteed to get maximum life by using them to push dry air in (which i do as well) however, such a blanket and extreme statement is easily proven wrong.

I have also had no problems running computer fans within 100% humidity environments, even spraying water directly into the working fan.

What substrate are you using for the Maitake?
