The reason is to achieve a unfiform moisture content of the rye.
Boil as long as the first kernels begin to explode(app. 30-40 minutes). then drain well and pc for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

The other way is to fill the jar with rye and water, app. 100g rye and 110 g water and pressure cook for one hour. shake while still hot, since right after cooking the water content is not that uniform with dryer kernels at the top.
