I expect my spore syringes in a few days and I bought all my equiptment to start using the PF Tek and perlite humidity. My question is after boiling the jars, do I need to keep anything over the holes in the lids to keep contaminates out or does it need air to spread? And if I get to the stage of havesting, is there any special way to pick them? Just rip or cut with blade?

You should put tape over your holes and see how that goes. If the jars are almost done and need just a little more colonization to reach 100% and it looks stalled, you can then remove the tape for the last few days and that should help it finish up.

in same instance as you, I read a grow report on here actually, and it said that they covered holes but colonization was taken a long time, they asked on a newsgroup about it, was told to leave holes open so air can get in and the jars colonized very quickly.

Makes sense tho to cover up for first few days tho to keep bad things out.


My question
Best place to put jars during colonizaion for quickest colonization. What temperrature is best.?

I read in all grow guides it says, dark warm place. Any elaborations greatly appreciated

Say, about 85 degrees, in a dark place. Not a dim place, a dark place. Mine are kept in a box in my closet with the door shut, it works great for me. It needs to be dark so as not to induce fruiting while the mycelium is still developing.

If you have the vermiculite seal, which you should with the pf tech, there is no real need for the tape over the holes. Aslong as your verm. layer is thick enough, if your worried about it though you can go ahead and tape 'em up, no harm done.
