Windmill/Watermill Home Power Generator Construction
    #3537647 - 12/23/04 11:53 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

We've talked about "living off the grid", well lately I've been looking into this. I want to open a discussion about different ideas and methods to contruct effecient hydro- and aeroelectric generators. One simple idea involved a self made wooden propeller and an car alternator.

i was reading or hearing on the radio or somthing that the propellor design has everything to do with how efficient it is, obviosly. but htey went in to the noise discussion. it was either the more the les noise or the less teh more noise. keep that in mind if its by your house. also keep in mind that all these common "new age" power generators are jsut charging batteries, usually, so what your goal is is to charge a battery not power a house. would depend where you live but in our property its surrounded by trees (no wind) so wind is completely out. not much sun but enough to get soem use from solar. and water, well the "stream" that rusn through is really more of a elongated pond.

anyway i clearly have little to nothing to add but im interested in read this thread!

This is something like I'm talking about. I assume making a hydroelectric generator like that wouldnt be too hard, just use a waterwill or turbine instead of the propeller for the wind.
