The New S&P Rules

I like this:
Quote:
Be Tolerant
1) Don't be Reactionary --- Just as everybody has a unique view on things, everybody has a unique style of debate and discussion. Don't accuse others of flaming, baiting, or disruptions, just because they are skeptical of your position. Just as it is the user's responsibility not to provoke others, it is the user's responsibility not to be easily provoked. When you are feeling offended, sometimes it's up to you to keep the peace. The moderators are not here to coddle.
Being too-easily provoked creates just as much of a disturbance as being provocative.
2) Don't be Inflexible --- Nobody wants to be told how to think; this is a place for fruitful discussion, not bitter competition. Persons who are visibly disinterested in sharing ideas and are instead more interested in overwhelming other people's ideas will be disciplined: threads will be locked, and in extreme cases posting rights will be restricted.
Being open minded means not only a willingness to tolerate different points of view, but a willingness to tolerate different people with different, sometimes undesirable, attitudes.
But there's always a loophole:
Quote:
Disciplinary action will be enforced in accordance with The Rules at the discretion of the moderators.

Some of the most reasonable rules I've seen in a while
You'd think rules like that would just be assumed in a forum of philosophy, which inevitably will lead to discussion and debate, but some tend to forget them.
-------------------- So long as you are praised think only that you are not yet on your own path but on that of another.

It was a collaborative effort.. and we are going to try and enforce them in the most balanced and objective manner as possible.

What does this mean exactly:
Quote:
When a user sets certain parameters for discussion within their thread, it is the responsibility of other members to respect those boundaries. Please respect the wishes of the poster within their thread(s)
Do we have a metric for these parameters?
Does this mean someone can post nonsense that doesn't stand up to critical analysis and remain unchallenged if the poster's "parameters" require it?
-------------------- Republican Values: 1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you. 2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child. 3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer. 4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.
