only mushrooms from the side of the cake help please

i have a few cakes in a fishtank, my rh is constant around 85-90 percent. temp is also pretty stable. i only get mushies from the sides all the pins abort from the top. im still new at this so any advice i can get i would be thankful for

cover the sides of the fish tank with black construction paper, and make sure you've got light inside the tank, coming from above. then your shrooms will grow upward.

RH is low, try to raise it to the mid 90-s

hmmm... i can almost bet you spray, dont you? and if you do i can almost bet you dont have a drip shield, huh? just going off of a gues but i think you spray with something that lets out big drops an dit hits the mushies and they abort. try spraying about 2 feet above the fruiting chamber. if im wrong im sorry. but please let me know either way.

lemon i have no drip sheild and i dont spray. i have a 20 gal fish tank with a heater in it, the water heats and creates the rh. the tank is kept in a 3x3x3(foot) box made of styrofoam. please respond or contact me if u have any advice u think can help me.

Sounds like your problems have already been answered by the previous posters.

First, the white styrofoam is reflecting the light that comes in from the top of the chamber and is one reason your mushies are growing from the sides. So, cover the glass with black construction paper or some other suitable material, just as Willchair suggested.

Secondly, your RH is too low for cakes. The humidity at the bottom of your chamber is always higher than at the top. this is due to the fact that vaporized water particles are heavier than air and tend to settle near the bottom of the chamber. Your mushies growing on top are in an unsuitable fruiting environment due to this. Use perlite. It's cheap and easy.
