heavy inoculation
    #3532885 - 12/22/04 08:35 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

when I knocked up my jars I used a 12 CC and going by the MMGG I had a little left over, so I squirted it into my last jar and marked the jar to see if it colonized faster.

Well it's been 12 days now, and that jar is at about 90% and the others aren't near as close.

so here's my question, I plan on becoming self reliant and making my own syringes in the future, so using extra spore solution won't be a problem, but are there any disavantages to doing this?

No harm will result from innoculating your media with a large amount of spores. However if a lot of water was used to transfer the spores it could oversaturate your media and cause problems.

what kind of problems exactly, and how much is too much?

also, to make sure i've got this straight, when I make my own, I should just put more spores into my syringe (making a dark syringe instead of a clear one) as opposed to squirting more spore solution?

The mycelium not to colonize at a normal pace, if at all.

sounds like an experiment!

Ideally, yes. Water acts as a carrier, which is also a good thing. You will need to find a practical ratio and optimal amounts for inoculation. Experiment and let us know?
