suppose one forgot to add a dry layer of verm to their jars. Should the jars be re-made using fresh ingredients and NOT FORGETTING to do this step or can they still be inoculated. I read in one of the TEKs that sometimes flipping the jars provides air exchange...not sure about contams tho. Anyone with experience?

Now there is a very high contam risk. The dry very provides air circulation, while not letting in any cantams. I guess its a 50/50 chance, make sure everything you do is sterile. IMO id start right over, do it all again.

Coffee fliters wont stop contams without the verm barrier..they'll only stop dust..not much else. Tyvek could be used but I would also just start over since after adding tyvek youd need to resterilize anyway...just scoop some off the top off all your jars and add the verm layer and resterilize.

I always used coffee filters before with no losses to contams. (Probably around 36 jars PF-tek w/perlite instead of verm.) By all means do not, DO NOT THROW THEM OUT! Unless you already have contams. A word of warning though...coffee filters will NOT stop cob-web from spreading to your other jars if they are too close!

wont the substrate dry out if i resterilize? I used the double boiler for this, not a pressure cooker
