its a pretty stupid arguement raised by her parents IMO. i mean, its a federal check done by the FBI, no mental health records are available thanks to HIPPA.

There's no way in the world Wal-Mart is at fault in this case. If the parents want to sue someone, they should be suing the government. Oh, wait! Can't do that.
As a side note, check out this quote from someone supposedly commenting on this case:
Quote:
Michael Faenza, president and chief executive of the National Mental Health Association, applauds Texas' refusal to share information with the FBI database. He said it would not be fair to violate patients' privacy when there is no data to support claims that mentally ill people are more violent than others.
"The tragedies that families face when people are killed is terrible. And frankly I wish handguns were not so available in this country," he said. "But it's not right, in our minds, to make social policy based on just a few cases."
Since when is a shotgun a "handgun"? Either this guy is a sloppy thinker or the reporter was too lazy to get a current quote and dredged up some quote they already had on file from him.

Wall-mart doesn't even carry handguns.

What a crock.
If it wasn't a gun, it would've been a noose, or a train, or a bunch of pills.. there's all sorts of ways.
Bitch just wants fucking money. Mourn your daughter's death, don't exploit it for cash. Goddamn. I hate this sort of shit.

yeah! they cant keep those low low walmart prices defending frivolous lawsuits all the time. from walmartlitigation.com Wal-Mart Settles Suicide Suit ? Man Bought Ammo At Store ? North Carolina. Wal-Mart has agreed to pay $130,000 to the estate of a man who shot and killed himself after buying ammunition at a Wilmington, NC Wal-Mart. A lawsuit filed in New Hanover County District Court earlier this year accused Wal-Mart of negligence for selling bullets to a male, age 22, and for failing to supervise its employees. On July 31, 2001, after an apparent argument with his estranged wife, the decedent threatened to go to Wal-Mart to buy ammunition to commit suicide. Told of the threat, police warned two Wal-Marts to be on the lookout, but the message didn?t get to the employee who sold the decedent the ammunition, according to David Collins, attorney for the plaintiff. The decedent left the store and barricaded himself in a car, where he shot and killed himself. Wal-Mart, which denied it was responsible, settled out of court. Most of the $130,000 settlement will ultimately go to the decedent?s 3-year-old son according to Collins. Estate of Matthew John VanGraafeiland vs. Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., District Court, New Hanover (NC) County, Case No.____. David Collins, attorney for plaintiff.

This by itself is stupid. Wal-mart's employees are trained to sell products (like gun ammunition), not to police the store's customers. If the police were so worried about this bonehead, then they should have !@#$#ing put some officers in the stores to watch for the guy... that is their job... but of course they were too busy busting some guy for smoking a joint somewhere to worry about a life-and-death issue that obviously the wal-mart employees were more than adequately trained and equiped to handle .

right!?!?! "so every man that walks into the ammo section of the store, you employees have to ask him if he's the disgruntled lover whose come to buy the bullets he's going to kill himself with." that would be an akward thing to have to case customers for psychological problems.
there's more than one way to kill yourself and this guy wouldnt be the first to posture an empty threat for some attention.

Whoooooa there, buddy. I think you're talking about a little something they wrote about in the history books. It's called personal responsibility. You can't possibly expect people to have that these days, can you? [/sarcasm]

It's not about fault or responsibility or anything silly like that, of course! It's all about making others feel bad enough for you that they'll take money from someone else and give it to you.
