all there is to know contained right here
    #3521113 - 12/19/04 04:01 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

The Invitation

It doesn?t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart?s longing.

It doesn?t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn?t interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life?s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us to
be careful
be realistic
remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn?t interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
?Yes.?

It doesn?t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn?t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn?t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

i dont think this post contains all there is to know. i think most of its value is poetic, with just a tad of metaphysical/philosophical relevance.

mostly i found it kind of cliched or cheezy but maybe im just jaded.

you shouldnt bump your own threads if NO ONE replies, in my humble oppinion.

well i say it's a gem! thanks sheik that is really nicely written! and mooonshoe, while some of the ideas of the poem have been used before, that in no way makes it cliche - it is still an original piece coming from the heart. sharing your art with the world can be daunting enough as it is since it's so personal. didn't your mum teach you if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all?

keep rearranging beauty sheik!

lol if sheik has written this himself i would never have said that. but he didnt its a widely circulated thing ive seen a few times before.

sorry for being an asshole, by all means enjoy it for what it is. i just think the thread title was massively overselling it. with a title like that its bound to disapoint.

i agree with moonshine. Its an inevitable letdown, and i think the prose sucks anyway. The title could have been "This is a so-so piece of work" and I would still be disappointed.

yeah i really wasn't sure whose poem it was since there was no author's name, but still think it's ... as for threads, I find the titles often misleading but then I realise that this usually stems from  personal expectations. the technology shroomery relies on is a somewhat limited form of communication, but a very unique and worthwhile one nonetheless

"I dont think you are very humble actualy I feel you are rather flamboyant and opionated, the complete oposite of humble."

opinionated? i have oppinions sure.

flamboyant? to me that conjures more an image of liberace and poofy wigs, more than not liking your poem, but thats just me.

personally i think humbelness doesnt mean not saying your oppinion, it just means always being clear that your oppinion is just that, nothing more.

"U guys would actualy think I can explain all there is to know?"

no i just dont see what the point is in saying you can if you cant, or you will if you wont.

please dont get sore about this. you posted a poem, i didnt like it , i kept quite, you bumped it again, i figured this guy really wants some response, so what else could i do but share my oppinion?

its just my take on the poem, doesnt mean shit.

if you see past the flowerly unicorn and rainbows language though there is something good in it though.

Hey sexy lunar fish,

Knowing you from the boards, you could easily answer yes to all of those questions.

I didn't see the rainbow unicorn in it, just someone encouraging others to soul search deeply. It's been around and I liked it when I first read it, only it was presented as an invitation from an Indian Elder.

Maybe because you have and can answer yes to all of that, it sounded shmutzy to you, like "duhhhhhhhh".

Think of how many people would be stumped by those questions or say No to many of them. It's meant to touch those people. You're like a slut in that sense, been there done that ya, whats next? LOL

I think when we are bored and come here, we read everything as if it was posted for us alone and sometimes, what goes up that we say "bah" too, may mean a lot to someone else. I think around 300 members visit S&P a month on average.

Nothing is going to please or be for everyone all of the time. Some times, I post something thinking, if it means something or is appreciated by just ONE person, it was worth it.

you got me jiggy.

you wanna know the real, deep dark and terrible truth?

this poem caught me in a baddish mood, and i responded to it out of my current emotional state.

Thats the thing, this one poem could be the most intense revelatory thing youve ever read or some 'rainbow unicorn' crap, and it would depend more on the person reading it than the poem itself.

so please attribute all previous statements to bad mood moonshoe instead of good mood moonshoe.

thanks for posting that, and sharing what you saw as a great thing with people out of the compassion of your heart

seriously was i ever blind. did i even READ this before i trashed it?
