These are pf-tek style jars with brown rye flour instead of brf, Z-strain
dunked then cased 60/40 verm/coca coir, frist flush
birthed from the casing to show scale of layers
why am I only growing mini-shrooms

Hrm...sorry I don't have any input, but I've gotta say it:
I've not seen a lot of pics of whole casings being birthed...I like how you can see all the mycelium and layers along w/ the shroomies! How long have you had them cased for? Did you use a pint or so for the casing?

i only birthed it to show the layers, normally you would want to avoid this as it will cause it to pin from the sides and bottom rather that the top

You seem to be using very little substrate. Also the casing layer seems very thick from your pic-or it could be that some casing soil fell between the spacing in the container and the substrate making it look thicker than it is. But it really does look like a very thin layer, even if the pic is misleading. How much substrate are you using?

how the hell did you get the yeild in your sig pic
also the casing was made from three 1/2 pint jars
now, i have read that if i put a 2 inch layer of substrate i will yeild the largest shrooms, is this true, how can i get the biggest shrooms possible without dung/straw/compost. I currently have colonized WBS and BRF PF-tek jars, what should i do

2 inch substrate, which means .5-1 inch of casing on the bottom and on the top. That comes out to a 3-4" casing. Substrate is the white part of the oreo.

2 inch is not thick enough IMHNO. You can case grain with a substrate depth of 4 inch with 1/4 inch of verm on bottom and 1/2-3/4 inch of 50/50+ (verm coir limestone) on top.
But what gives the biggest I dont know!

I must disagree. IMO 1.5-2 inches is the optimal substrate depth for grain to produce the most mushrooms. You WILL get more mushrooms from two 12x12 casings 2 inches thick then one 12x12 casing 4 inches thick. Though the latter casing would give you bigger mushrooms. All conditions being the same of course.
According to hyphae, the same is true for bulk.

Yeah I thought they were talking bout BIG mushrooms, big mushrooms = thick substrate. So with "2 inch not think enough" I meant not thick enough if you want BIG shrooms.
He asked: "now, i have read that if i put a 2 inch layer of substrate i will yeild the largest shrooms, is this true, "
I think teh answer on this is "No".

Sorry, I read that as "the largest amount of shrooms"...just read over it quick. Certainly it wouldnt get you the biggest shrooms at 2"..IMO the largest shrooms will be from 6-10 inch substrate..but 2" will give you the largest amount of weight per amount of substrate..at least IME with grain and Hyphaes with bulk..

my best yeild was 197.8 on the first flush of a 1 1/2 inch deep casing, it was 8 PF style jars, is this a good yeild, dried to 26g somehow, and thats "cracker" dry
