Well, proud to be a metal head here....! Back when I was 16, and got Master of Puppets, and blared it thru my jambox while playing my good ole' Atari 2600, my mom came in pissed that I was listening to it, and left saying that it was just a phaze I was going thru.... HAAA...!!! Well, that phaze has lasted over 16 years, and it ain't gonna~ be ending soon...!
I personally don't care for the hardcore metal bands that grogglygrowl with no melody or tone in their "singing", but the music is sometimes good....
I seen Anthrax "Among the Living" tour.... They opened for Autograph....
I liked most of the bands listed already, so I will name some that come to mind that have not been listed....
KillSwitch Engage Killgore Disturbed Dream Theater, and all of the projects of current and past members.... MudVayne - Is that McKenna speaking in the first and last trax of the LD-50 CD...???? KORN - the first CD Savatage - the old stuff
Awww damn, I could be here all night....

That's exactly what I didn't say anymore than what I did. I was going to recommend a few that could easily rival, especially Cryptopsy like Ricochet mentioned. Those guys are fucking insane. I too would be interested in hearing your opinion on them.

I'd be curious to hear your opinion of those albums.
i define heavy as sludgy riffs, great vocals w/ meaningful lyrics, amazing leads, boss drums, and bass to keep up with the rest of the band. it can be a various amount of sounds and styles.. it varies with me. it's all my tastes, brother. pantera is the epitamy of that if you ask me. that sort of metal(the bands you suggested + listed) never floated my boat, either. they're all good and heavy in their own respect, but not really my cup of tea. and honestly, the only one i listened to intently was Cryptopsy. i had a buddy heavy into them back in HS. they were alright, but they lacked that groove to me. i feel like i got to try and back up my tastes, so i'll try.. i wouldn't call their music SOUL LESS, cause it ain't.. i'm not that shallow or empty headed. it just didn't ring with me like Pantera always has. i've heard 'close to a world below' by Immolation and it was ballsy. it had nuts and punch, i can't deny that.. and i won't. again, i really can't define heavy by a certain sound. far beyond driven just does it for me.. i don't know.. and again, i ain't cuttin any of them in any way. they're all amazing musicians with assloads of talent, it just doesn't do it for me. to you and yours though.. cheers bro, it ain't nothin personal

That's Devin Fucking Townsend. "There's nothing more pathetic than trying to hold onto youth. So grow old gracefully! Wear the skullet! This next song is from the album with the blood and chicken feathers on the cover, which you know signifies vast quantities of METAL!"

I live my life based around metal standards, I eat, drink, and breathe metal.
Right now I've been on a Krisiun kick. A death metal trio of brothers hailing from the harsh jungles of Brazil. I saw these guys last summer and it looks like they hunt Predators when they're not caving skulls in with their music.

Before I really listened to music, I liked listening to N'sync and shit like that. Everybody made fun of me, which I don't blame them at all. Then I got into Linkin Park, then that lead to System of a Down and Disturbed, and within the last 4 years got into Slipknot, Stone Sour, Korn, Mudvayne, Metallica, and many more. I have exactly 2100 songs on my computer. Thank god for MP3's.

Lame "metal" = Slipknot, Korn, metallica, etc.
Real metal = Pagan's Mind, Lost Horizon, Queensryche, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Moonsorrow, Dark Fortress, Slough Feg, Gamma Ray, etc.

Holy crap, I'm so glad someone else listens to Lost Horizon!
There's an older (80s) band called Running Wild....they're clasified as pirate metal. Every song makes me want to rape, pillage, and plunder the Queen's ships.
