its the third day that my panaleous cyanescens have been pinning and they are tiny!! these centimeter shrooms popped up out of no where and then they have barely grown since. theres about 15 pinheads and six "baby shrooms". my qustion is how big do these get before the viel breaks? the humidity seems kinda low and i thought that might be the reason these mushrooms havent been growing very much but they look pretty mature for there size. thequestions that i would like to know are:
1) how big do they get before the viel breaks?
2)whats the best time two pick these (most potency)?
3) about how many of these does it take to get an eighth
i would really appreciate youre help without the critisism!!

i know!! ive already seen those. i want to know whether you pick them right after the viel breaks or if the potency keeps growing after it breaks. the main question is when is the best time to pick them if i want the most potency per weight. thats all that i want to know.

Theyll probably be fine if you pick em after they mature
a bit. Just make sure not to leave them so long that they rot.:(
You should definitely get a scale, since
anything somebody tells you based on your description
of your shrooms is going to be a guess ,and
especially since you are dealing with a very potent mushie
you are going to want to know how much (in grams) a certain
amount is,(like a one gram difference in dosage will be very
noticeable) ive seen good digital scales on the net for like $40.;)
Ive heard that Pans are 2x as potent as Cubes, if a good cube
dose for you is 3 grams dry than you should eat 1.5 dry grams of Pans.

ya, i was thinking that i would let the viel break and once the cap fully outurns i would pick them. is this a good time to pick or should i do it earlier. i heard that psilocybin and psilocin are produced untill the viel breaks and then it stops producing it and starts focusing on making spores. am i right?

There's no real data to say that it stops producing psilo's. Its just a well spread "old wives tale". Just pick them when the cap upturns. The only reason you want to pick a cubie when the viel breaks is becuase they use alot of nutrients, because of size I'm assuming, The pans are small so I doubt it matters much if you pick them at veil break or not.

The only reason they tell you that is so that newbies dont leave their shrooms in the terr. till they spread spores all over the place and/or start rotting on you ... i don't know what it is with you aluminum can.... this is such a basic question... you must have fun posting in the advanced... maybe you think "more-advanced" people will answer your question ::laughing:: .... this is WAY basic ... and since you decided to fuck with pans instead of cube i think it serves you right  ... pans can grow to over 14 inches... hello??? have you been READING???? lol.... why dont you search on all the shit ralphster44 has posted... i'm sure ALL if not ONE of his posts will answer your question.... peace

i kind of dont like doing too much reasearch. id rather try to figure stuff out on my own instead of stealing ideas from other people. this question is one of those that i knew a solution to but wanted a better one. the casings have been fruiting for four days now and most of them are close to one inch. one of those has already broken its viel and it looks like "normal" mushroom (except smaller) theres also another cluster of three which are taller and skinier but the viels havent broken yet. thers also a few tiny shrooms where if it were cubensis it would be a pihead but its not cuz you can actually tell what it is (has a cap and a stem). another thing i didnt expect was that the caps are getting small blue streaks on them and the color is getting darker too. when the pinhead first forms into a mushroom the cap is a milky carmel color and when they mature the cap starts to turn a blue color. i am guessing that this is caused by the psilocybin and psilocin content of this specie. in about a week i am hoping for my first harvest of this specie and i will keep you informed on how these little potent portabellas work. thanks for the advice.

Lower the humidity and vent more often....
if the pans are very small means there's too much humidity...at least try it

it did seem like they didnt have a veil. ive already picked them and i was dissapionted at what i got. i got a quarter once dried out of twelve jars. i will stick to psilocybin cubensis untill i have more info about spawning and then ill try again. luckily, i got three prints, one was 1 centimeter in diameter and the others were half centimeter. i traded the two half centimeter ones for a pes hawian print, and the centimeter on for a thailand print. theyre in the mail right now.

if youre gowing to cultivate shrooms that have atleast some difficulty, id suggest buying a digital thermometer/humidity guage. use a good form of humidity (not perlite or handspraying) and it would probably help if you had something to keep the temperature up. i think that that was the problem that i had (and i cased the cakes like you would with cubensis) i did already have manure in the substrate but some cakes were better than others so it made extremely uneven growth were the only shrooms that grew all came from the same corner of the casing. i will try to cultivate them once again after i learn how to grow from quart jars and spawn onto manure. i think it will be alot easier for me after i learn those things. i also want to know the trick to pans also, the trick to cubensis is having everything perfect for that strain but it seems that its different for pans.

first off, what brand of digital therm/hygometer are you using?
through my expierience, as well as others, the humidity is too much for the electronics and will destroy the meter in a short span of life.
i just read in your other post that you didnt have a pressure cooker....
...and by reading this post, you have confirmed to me that you dont know what the hell you are doing.
what tek did you follow for this species?
how did you sterilize your substrate, & the dung, w/o a pressure cooker?
