PICS UPLOADED(need help identifying)
    #3524987 - 12/20/04 06:50 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

i jsut recently started looking fro shrooms....and i found some brackets growing on a dead stump. I picked them and looked over them all. i think i have three diffferent types. none of the shrooms had stesm( i think cause they were brackets), but one was a large white, creamy colored cap. On the underside of it there is a brown border then the rest is white and has a brown or grey-ish center. it is also very fuzzy lookin on the bottom.

the second of the ones i foudn was very thin and wavy. i couldnt tell which side is supposed to be the top either. one side though is a tannish brown color that surrounded a creamy white center. the other side is creamy white feels smooth and has a few brown blotches on it.

the third is a blackish gray color on top and is a golden brown color on bottom. these were stacked on top of each other so there were no caps. one of my friends said they looked like clams because of their color and shape.

if anyone could help that would be great....id love to know if these are edible and if can trip off of these bc it is an experience ive yet to have...thanks alot

Those are big ol polypores. They are not hallucinogenic and probably not poisonous. Lets wait for some other expert to chime in with whether they may be at all edible. Chances are they have no appetizing flavor and are too dense to bother about munching on.

ALSO! It is too late for cow fields in the US except maybe extreme cases in FLA and GA.. actually, this past week the GA cold has probally stunted all growth..

Sorry man, got to wait until next spring/summer

BUT! that will give you plenty of time to learn about it all!

def. too cold in our neck of the woods.

those things are everywhere man. they're not poisonous, but they're too spongy/chewy to eat.

I live in NC too. Wait till next summer. Then wait till the rain starts coming in. When we've had a good amount of rain for a couple weeks and the humidity has been real high for a while, then start checking the pastures. You probably won't find anything but cubes, but that is better than nothing.

The first and last pics may well be Trametes versicolor .

Nope not even close. Those shelf-like mushrooms are NEVER hallucinogenic and usually too tough to try eating. I saw your new ID post and the same goes for those.

I agree with MAIA...
T. versicolor, aka Turkey tails
are being used in medicinal studies
to aid in HIV research, and tumor regression
in cancer patients..
