Popcorn
You can use fractional sterilization, it has worked for some people. Just boil them for an hour or so for 2 or 3 days, then they should be OK.

what are you talking about?
ok boil what for an hour, the popcorn itself, or the popcorn in the jars?
and what do you mean for 2 or 3 days??? you mean an hour each day?
ok so that is fractional sterilization.
Fractional sterilization
A sterilisation method used to destroy bacteria and spores in preparation of grain spawn(rye, wheat, birdseed...) which requires no pressure cooker. In this case, the jars fitted with a filter or a polyfil lid filter are boiled or steamed 212?F (100?C) for 30 min in a covered pot, three days in a row. Between the boiling steps the jars are best kept warm, around 30?C, to allow the remaining spores to germinate. The basic principle behind this method is that any resistant spores should germinate after the first heating and therefore be susceptible to killing during the second and third heating.
when i do this it is in the jars>? and not just the popcorn?. should i add the spores aswell? while im boiling it for these three days or do i add it in at the end. of the boiling processes.
now once that is done (saying i did it right) what substrate should i use?
straw? or soil and vermiculture? please give the best one suitible for higher yeilds. thanks a million

I hate to say it, and I don't usually say it, but man, you gotta read the FAQ. Either you are confused about some terms or else you are confused about some basic concepts in mycology. You do realize that adding spores into the popcorn before you sterilize them would sterilize (read: kill!) the spores themselves right?? Also soil and verm is a casing material, not a bulk substrate. It is no nutrients, therefore mycelium would not use it as food. Read the FAQ, and then if you have any questions we'll all be more than happy to help you out.

Did you ask if you should add the spore BEFORE you boil them? If you did that you would be killing the spores you want as well as the ones you don't want. Maybe I misunderstood your question. Seriously, if you want to do this right you should go check a few goodwills, junk shops, and second hand stores for a small Mirromatic pressure cooker. I've seen them for a few dollars at goodwill stores, or garage sales. Even check E-bay, they have tons of them on there. I honestly cannot see anyone trying to do any bulk substrate cultivation without a pressure cooker, it just seems like more of a hassle to boil things for hours at a time, or for several days in a row. But that's just my opinion. Heck, try asking some older relatives, aunts, or grandma's if they have one you can borrow. Almost any serious cook has a pressure cooker laying around. I wish you good luck. Athena.

oi. ok so let me get this straight.
Materials needed- straw corn spore terrarium pressure cooker massonry jar
step one: if you have a pressure cooker then put the corn into a massonry jar. with the lidsupside down for air flow. cook it at 212?F (100?C) for an hour or hour and a half. if you dont have one, cook the jar in boiling water at 212?F (100?C) for a half-hour over a period of three days. (half-hour each day).
step two: let the jar cool, take the spores and sprinkle on top of the cooked corn, shake jar and put into a dark place (at 75-85' F) for 5 days.
step three: pasturise the straw by cooking it in a pillow case for an hour at boiling temps. then cool over night. also let drain over night by taking oven rack and placing over the sink. and place the pillow case over it.
step four: once straw is dry and moist mix the colonized spawn in with it. let sit in dark place for 2 days. then put mixture of soil, and vermiculture lightly over the colonized straw. mist soil mixture and top of case and place somewere dark and same temp as before for 5 days. then mist once a day and air out 3 times a day once its colonized and pin heads start to form.
step five: fruiting, same, mist and air out, then harvest once the caps open up.
do i have this correct? what have ai missed?

Not 5 days, but until colonized. And "sprikling spores" just like that will result in almost certain contamination. >step three: >pasturise the straw by cooking it in a pillow case for an hour at boiling temps. Boiling temperatures? Where did you get this from? At 160-170?F, not more, not less. >step four: >once straw is dry and moist mix the colonized spawn in with it. let sit in dark >place for 2 days. Not 2 days, but until colonized, can take anything from 7-14 days.

If that is your source of spores, then you are in for a world of dissapointment.
Read the FAQ, research before you even begin to gather materials. The boy scout motto fits here very well:
Always be prepared.
Your not going to have much luck without knowing what you are doing, and your going to have lots of problems without the proper materials. Read up, and good luck.

Told,
Take a deep breath. Pop a cold one and relax. Put a little time aside. Nobody can just pump all the answers into your head. They have to go in through your eyes. Here's where to point your eyes; http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/3171
Learning this stuff is fun. If you look at it as a chore or a race, you are just going to be frustrated. Peace.
