While you Bush haters are rolling in your feces, imagine your prophet of God, Great_Satan, enjoying the fruits of the capitalist system while working in his plush conservative office while pissing out the window onto construction workers and being well payed........

I couldn't agree more. Rewarding personal achievement is appalling and offensive to those who haven't achieved anything.
I am quite certain an American Idol watching welfare recipient was more deserving of the title "Man of the Year".

I was under the impression that Time's Man of The Year is selected based on newsworthiness, not on the person's worthiness as a human being. In other words, don't gloat - mass murderers can be awarded the same distinction.

You were under the correct impression. One of Time's criteria is how much effect the person has on the world. The effect need not necessarily be good or bad, just noteable.

well with that criteria, I'd agree - the "man with the most impact on the world this year" should definitely be GW Bush. I wonder if they will have any articles in the issue about why so many people world-wide oppose Bush, though, or if it will only be a "human-interest" piece about how he is a down-home rancher who likes turkey-gravy.

Also, let's not forget the "Why would anyone give a shit what Time Magazine thinks" factor.

Does anyone recall who Time's Person of the Year was in 2000?
Hint: It wasn't Al Gore.

I don't know but something tells me you're going to say.....Bush?
I remember that they wanted to give Osama Bin Laden the "Man Of The Year" award in 2001 but they knew people would misinterpret the meaning of the award, so they gave it to someone else.

2000: George W. Bush 41's son elected President in the most controversial fashion
and other interesting ones
1971: Richard Nixon Opened China's door, devalued dollar, quelled antiwar protest
1974: King Faisal Saudi led OPEC price hikes that roiled world markets
1951: Mohammed Mossadegh Rallied short-lived anti-Western government in Iran
1939: Joseph Stalin Paved the way for Hitler's war by signing secret pact with old enemy 1942: Joseph Stalin The U.S.'s new ally in war against Hitler
1937: Gen. and Mme. Chang Kai-Shek Japan's invasion of China imperiled them as "Man and Woman of the Year"
1938: Adolf Hitler His figure strode over Europe with all the swagger of a conqueror
And Osama Bin Laden was nominated for Man Of The Year in 2001 ..
Moral of the story, it's not really an honor to be Man of the Year
