Dried cap has different color
    #3524350 - 12/20/04 03:46 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

The color of the cap of my mushrooms have changed after drying them thoroughly. There are not brown/yellow anymore.
Here's a picture:

What's the cause of this? Anything to worry about?

What species of mushroom is that? I have heard of mushrooms turning blue/green in the drying process. Did you handle them a lot prior to/during the drying? I don't think it's a contam unless they stink, or if your substrate was green too.

Thanks for your reply. The strain is psilocybe cubensis. I cannot remember handling them a lot though I could be wrong. It's remarkable that only the cap is blue/green.
They don't stink and myc that produced these shrooms was very white. They've been in a box - meant for drying - for about 10 days (perhaps a little too long?).

They just bruised, its fine and happens often. Species contain psilocybin and psilocin bruise when drying or if pressures applied.

or if the drying cycle is interrupted. i've noticed that if you turn the fan off halfway through (company was over and i have no lock on my bedroom), the mushroom gets moist again on the outside due to internal moisture, and that seems to aid in the bruising.

it looks very similar to what you have there... icky looking dried.
