Perlite as a substrate?
    #3522025 - 12/19/04 10:11 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Perlite is porous. Soak it with nutrients? Perhaps coffee, blended with wbs or brf and verm? The reason ive decided to ask this question is because i was casing using a bottom layer of perlite and noticed that the mycelium(ksss) bonded to the perlite within a matter of hours. Maybe even a hydroponics system utilizing large perlite rocks with a tube going into the center, if contams could be contained, of course. all ideas are good ideas.

thanks,
cappin

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

Your a dick, This is not the forum for ragging on people. This idea probably wouldn't work out too well. You need more nutrients than something like coffee can supply.

there is a guy named mikl that does this. he is going to experimant with it a little and find what is the best and post a tek on it. but he says it works wonders. he just takes some perlite mixes with water, stir real good drain off excess water and adds brf. for now the mix ratio is 2:1:1 (perlite, brf, water) but it has not been tried and true just quite yet to my knowledge.

No.

You cannot soak perlite in coffee, or suppliments, it doesnt absorb shit. It can however be used as an addition to making your substrate more porous combined with moisture rettaining material (vermiculite) and nutrients.

Poo and perlite for example.

But instead people use Poo and straw, because straw accomplishes the porous nature of perlite but also holds nutritional value and water retention capabilities.
