Test to see if 24 hour light induces rooting
    #3520559 - 12/19/04 03:31 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

I was talking to someone about how cactus seedlings can have 24/7 light so i tested this on my salvia clones and tobacco seedlings in a dome.

Before:

Salvia clones show no signs of rooting, seedlings approx 2 cm off the medium.

the results after 24 hour 93:CRI 'cool white' lighting:

One of the salvia clones showed multiple roots coming out of the nodes. seedlings grew approx 5%

conclusion:

from this one test no apparent effect on seedlings. But major change in clones.

is this all coincidence or does this 24hour light help rooting?

That's an interesting idea. I might have to try rooting some Salvia in a 24/7 set up to see if makes a difference.

I do know that I root small cactus cuttings in 24/7 light and I NEVER lose any. I also know that Psychtria Viridis leaves will put out starter plants like crazy under 24/7 lighting.

I also know that Salvia plants HATE 24/7 lighting. I think they need a rest period for better growth.

Hopefully someone else with some experience will give some more insight.

Hmm, I've never liked 24 hour light on plants.. to my logic every living thing needs a rest.

I use 20/4 on cactus seedlings and rooting
